First five year plan (1951 to 56) 
Model: Harrod domar model 
Theme: development of agriculture and irrigation
Dam construction under five year plan: Bhakra Nangal Dam Hirakud Dam damodara Valley Dam 
Community development programme started in 1952 
5 new IIT's establishment. 
Sindri fertilizer factory established in Jharkhand 
Target growth rate was 2.1 % and achieved 3.6 % 

Second five year plan (1956 to 61) 
Model: Prashant Chandra mahalanobis 
Theme: establishment of heavy and manufacturing industries 
3 new Steel Plant established in the period of second five year plan First Durgapur Steel Plant with the help of Britain 
Second Rourkela Steel Plant with the help of Germany 
Third Bhilai Steel Plant with the help of Russia 
Integral Coach Factory established at koyambatoor diesel locomotive works established in Chitranjan West Bengal 
Target Growth rate was 4.5 % and achieved 4.2 % 

Third five year plan (1961 to 66) 
Model: Ashok Mehta model 
Theme: self-reliant and production of wheat 
Bokaro Steel Plant established in 1964 with the help of Russia 
This plan failed. Reason of failure of this plan was India China war 1962, India Pakistan war 1965 & drought 1966
 Target growth rate was 5.6 % and achieved only 2.8 %

 Fourth five year plan (1969 to 74) 
Model: Ashok Rudra and Allen matre 
Theme: economic development with stability and self reliant 
Nationalisation of 14 new banks in and 19 July 1969 
Vijayanagar Steel Plant established in Karnataka
Target growth rate was 5.7 % and achieved 3.2 % 
This plan was also failed, Reason of failure was India Pakistan war 1971 & Migration of Bangladeshi people 

Fifth five year plan (1974 to 79) 
(Actual tenure of this plan was 4 year (1974-78) because when Indira Gandhi defeated the election then Janata Party have declined this five year plan model)
Model: TP Dhar 
Theme: removal of poverty 
20 point programme started in 1975 
Antyodaya Yojana started in 1977 
Announcement of Population Policy in 16 April 1976 
Announcement of National Emergency first time in India 
Target growth rate was 4.4 % and achievement was 5% 

Sixth five year plan (1980 to 85) 
Model: RF harrod domar 
Theme: removal of unemployment & energy Research Development
Employment measuring criteria setup
Poverty measuring criteria setup 
New Bank Nabard established by the Recommendation of Shiv Raman commity 
Nationalisation of 6 new bank on 15 April 1980 
Target growth rate was 5.2 % and achieved 5.5 % 

Seventh five year plan (1985 to 90) 
Model: Vakil Brahmananda 
Theme: development of food grains and productivity 
Focus on Agriculture & small and Middle Industries 
Drafted new economic reforms 
During this plan target growth rate was 5% and achieved 6% 

Eighth five year plan (1992 to 97) 
Model: Manmohan Singh and PV Narasimha Rao
Theme; human resources development 
Other objective
 Eradication of poverty 
 Create more employment 
 Tourism management 
 Reduction in population 
 Institutional rights to Panchayati system 
 Target growth rate was 5.6 % and achieved 6.6% 

Ninth five year plan (1997 to 2002)
Model: Madhu dandawate 
Theme growth with Social justice and Rural Employment 
Other objective
 Industrialisation
 Full employment 
 Self depend on domestic resources 
 Food security 
 Education for all  
 Drinking water 
 Women empowerment 
 Liberal market for private investment 
 Target growth rate of 6.5 % and achieved 5.4 % 

10th five year plan (2002-2007)
Model: National planning commission 
Theme: generation of employment and opportunity 
Other objective
 Started Rural Employment Guarantee scheme 2005 
 To reduce population growth by 16.2 % (during  2001 to 2011) 
 To increase literacy rate from 22 to 80% 
 Increasement of forest density from 25 % to 33% 
 Target growth rate was 8% and achieved 7.6% 

11th Five Year Plan (2007 to 12)
Model: National planning commission 
Theme: Rapid and inclusive growth 
Other objective
 Maximum expenditure on social sector 32.6 percent 
 Expenditure on energy 18.6%
 Target Growth rate was 8.1 % and achieved 8% 

12th Five Year Plan (2012 to 17) 
Model: National Planning Commission 
Theme: faster sustainable more inclusive growth 
Other objective:  
 To reduce poverty till 10%  point 
 To create 5 crore new employment 
 To reduce total fertility ratffe still 2.1% 
 To Increase child sex ratio 927 to 950 
 To reduce carbon emissions by 25% 
 To complete eastern and western front corridor 
 Development waste management mechanism 
 To started urban Employment Guarantee scheme 
Total growth rate was 8% and achieved 6.4%.
